What the course delivers

The management toolkit, built specifically for scaffolding.

The full skill set of a scaffolding contract manager, taught for the first time. Eight modules. Industry-specific from day one. Built around interaction, not reading.

Why nothing's worked

You've probably already tried something.

Here's why it didn't stick.

Approach 1

Generic management courses

Not a single scaffolding reference. The moment your lad realises the example is a software company, he's switched off. Completely irrelevant to how this industry works.

Approach 2

On-the-job training

Works when you have time to teach and someone experienced enough to teach it consistently. Most businesses have neither. So it's inconsistent at best, and nonexistent at worst.

Approach 3

CITB / NASC courses

Valuable for the trade and safety side, but not built for management fundamentals. Contracts, commercial controls, programme management, payment rights. None of that is covered.

Approach 4

Hoping they'll figure it out

Works occasionally. Mostly costs you: errors, disputes, missed variations, and subcontract terms signed without being properly understood.

There hasn't been a purpose-built solution for this. Not because it's a hard problem, but because no one who understood scaffolding well enough had bothered to build it. That's what ScaffSkills is.

How ScaffSkills works

Built specifically for this industry. No compromises.

01

Industry-specific content

Every example, scenario, case study, and term is scaffolding. Subcontracts, RAMS, hire periods, scope of works, variations. The content speaks the same language your team does. No translation required.

02

Self-paced, on any device

No classroom. No fixed schedule. Your people work through it on their phone, at home, between jobs, wherever suits them. The course fits around site, not the other way around.

03

Practical, not academic

The focus is on what to do and why it matters, not theory for its own sake. Every module ends with a knowledge check and a downloadable reference summary they can use on the job.

The full course

Eight modules. Everything you need to manage confidently.

The complete course covers the commercial, contractual, and operational management fundamentals every scaffolding manager needs to understand. Eight modules, mapped to the project lifecycle.

The NASC 17-point quotation checklist, Schedules of Rates, daywork, qualification clauses, and the seven highest-risk pitfalls at tender stage.

📄

Why this course exists

There's never been training like this for our industry.

Scaffolding has world-class trade training. CISRS for the tools, NASC for the safety and technical standards, CITB for the site management basics. What it has never had is contract management training.

The commercial and management knowledge that decides whether a scaffold job pays or bleeds, reading subcontracts, pricing properly, defending payment applications, managing design liability, isn't taught anywhere formally. People pick it up over years, if they're lucky enough to work alongside someone who knows it.

Most don't get that. They figure it out the hard way: through disputes, underpayments, scope creep, and signed subcontracts they didn't fully understand. Every week the skills gap stays open, scaffolding contractors lose money to issues that proper management training would have prevented.

ScaffSkills exists to close that gap. Not a generic business course with a scaffolding logo on it. Content written specifically for this industry, by people who understand it. Every example, every scenario, every case study uses scaffolding terminology and scaffolding-realistic situations. No translation required.

The goal is straightforward: give scaffolders the contract management foundation they need to manage properly, without spending years learning it the hard way.

What makes this different

  • Written specifically for the scaffolding industry, not adapted from something generic
  • Every example uses scaffolding terminology, documents, and scenarios
  • Covers what CITB and NASC training doesn't: the commercial and management side
  • Self-paced: no classroom, no fixed days, no travel cost
  • CPD-certified: 7 hours recognised professional development
What people are saying

Results from the industry.

Both modules took me around 16 minutes to work through. The first video was genuinely informative — relevant for anyone in contract management. The detail on payment terms, quote to contract, JCT and NEC was something I'd seen referenced before but never properly explained. Well written and worth the time.

Contract Manager

Modules 1 & 2 completed

Brilliant course. My first reaction was scepticism — it's not from an established provider — but the information is genuinely useful. I've done project management courses before and most of it wasn't really relevant to this industry. This lays it out in industry terms. There's a real gap in understanding between contractor and client on what a scaffolding subcontract actually means. This bridges that gap in a straightforward way.

Project Manager, Scaffolding

Relevant where other courses weren't

Coming from the tools to working on the project management side has been a challenge. I didn't realise how much process, document control, and commercial awareness goes into it. In meetings, the jargon would go over my head. After doing the course I've got a much better grip of it — it's helped me understand what to actually focus on.

Pricing

No mystery. Here's exactly what it costs.

If the price doesn't work for you, that's fine. This isn't for everyone. But you'll know upfront.

FAQs

Straight answers.

Can my whole team use one login?

Each login is for one person. If you want to put multiple people through the course, each needs their own account. Contact us at hello@scaffskills.com if you're looking at team access and we can discuss options.

How long does the course take to complete?

The full course is approximately 8 hours across all 8 modules. There's no deadline; you can work through it at whatever pace suits. Most people spread it over a few weeks, fitting it around work.

Is this relevant for supervisors as well as managers?

Yes. Supervisors, site managers, contracts managers, and business owners all benefit from understanding how the contractual and commercial side of scaffolding works. The earlier in someone's management career they learn this, the better positioned they are.

What if my team aren't confident readers?

The course is built around interaction, not reading. Every module uses tappable diagrams of the contract document chain, click-to-expand process flow charts (battle of the forms, HGCRA notice regime, ERIC design hierarchy), sort exercises that test recall, and end-of-module decision case studies that walk through real on-site situations with realistic cost consequences. The reading we do keep is broken into short blocks separated by these interactive components, so the page never feels like a textbook. Industry jargon (NASC, RICS, JCT, NEC, HGCRA) is introduced when it matters, plain English alongside. If someone can read a subcontract, they can work through this course, and most of it isn't reading at all.

Is there a certificate?

Yes. On completion of all 8 modules there's a CPD certificate: 8 hours of recognised professional development. You can download and print it, or use it digitally. The reference number is unique to each learner.

What if it doesn't work for me?

There's a 14-day money-back guarantee. If within 14 days of purchase you decide it's not right, contact us and we'll refund in full. No conditions, no questions that waste your time. The guarantee exists because the course should either deliver value or you shouldn't be paying for it.

What do the free modules cover?

Module 1 covers the foundations of contract management in scaffolding: what a contract actually is, the key documents involved, how scope of works is defined, and why it matters commercially. Module 2 covers pricing and quotes: how to price accurately, structure a quote that protects your margin, and turn a quote into an enforceable contract. Both are free. Create a free account and you're in. Work through them and you'll know straight away whether the full course is worth it for you.

Does this cover health and safety?

Not directly. ScaffSkills focuses on the management, commercial, and contractual side: the areas CITB and NASC training typically don't cover. HSE and safety management appear where they're relevant to contracts (for example, CDM responsibilities), but this isn't a safety course.

You can manage properly. You just need to be shown how.

Modules 1 & 2 are free. Quick sign-up, no commitment. See the quality of the content before you make any decision about the full course.
