Who We Are
ScaffSkills is an online education platform operated from Dubai, UAE. We operate the website at scaffskills.com and provide online management training for the scaffolding industry.
Although we are not based in the United Kingdom, we offer our courses to learners in the UK. Accordingly, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), as retained in UK law by the Data Protection Act 2018, applies to our processing of personal data relating to individuals in the UK. We comply with UK GDPR in addition to applicable UAE data protection requirements.
If you have any questions about how we handle your personal data, please contact us at hello@scaffskills.com.
What Information We Collect
We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it to us. This includes:
- Email address — when you register your interest, sign up for updates, or complete a course module and request a discount code.
- Course activity — which modules you have viewed or completed, and quiz results, if you are a registered user.
- Communications — if you contact us by email, we retain those communications to respond to your enquiry.
We do not collect payment card information directly. Any future payment processing will be handled by a third-party payment provider, subject to their own privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Send you updates about the ScaffSkills course launch and new modules, where you have asked us to do so.
- Send you a discount code or other offer you have requested by completing a module.
- Respond to your enquiries.
- Improve our course content and website.
We will not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data on the following legal bases under UK GDPR (Article 6):
- Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) — where you have actively submitted your email address to receive updates, offers, or email sequences. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.
- Contract performance (Article 6(1)(b)) — where processing is necessary to provide the course service you have purchased, including delivering module access and issuing CPD certificates.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — to operate, maintain, and improve our website and course content, where this does not override your rights and interests. Our legitimate interests include understanding how learners use the platform and improving educational outcomes.
Email Marketing
Where you have opted in to receive emails from us, we use a third-party email marketing platform (Kit, formerly ConvertKit) to manage our mailing list and send communications. Kit processes your email address on our behalf and is subject to appropriate data processing agreements. You can find Kit's privacy policy at kit.com.
Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You may opt out at any time.
Cookies
Our website uses only essential cookies necessary for the site to function. We do not currently use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. Please see our Cookie Policy for full details.
Data Retention
We retain email addresses on our mailing list until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Course activity data is retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. CPD certificate records are retained for a minimum of five years to support professional development verification. We do not retain personal data for longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
Your Rights
If you are based in the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under UK GDPR. We will respond to any request within one month.
- Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten") — to request deletion of your personal data, where no overriding legitimate purpose exists for retention.
- Right to restriction of processing — to request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability — to request a machine-readable copy of data you have provided to us, where processing is based on consent or contract.
- Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will cease processing unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your rights.
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, to withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@scaffskills.com.
If you are a UK learner and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
Third-Party Services
Our website uses Google Fonts to serve typefaces. Google may collect limited technical information as part of this service. We do not control this processing and recommend reviewing Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com if you have concerns.
International Data Transfers
ScaffSkills is operated from Dubai, UAE. If you are a UK learner, your personal data is transferred outside the UK to our systems in the UAE. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data is protected in accordance with UK GDPR standards. Our email marketing provider, Kit (ConvertKit), is based in the United States; their processing is covered by appropriate data protection agreements. If you have questions about international transfers, contact us at hello@scaffskills.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of our website after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
